How to Use Boot Camp


The boot camp that will be referred to is a software that is used to install a PC operating system (such as Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or GNU/Linux operating systems) on an Intel-based Macintosh computer.
Required Tools

    * Computer/laptop

Required Material

    * Mac OS X.5 Leopard DVD
    * Windows OS (Vista or XP) with Service Pack 2

Instructions


   1. On your desktop, click on the hard drive icon to find out if you have enough space on your hard drive to install a windows operating system. When you click on your hard drive icon, select Get Info (Command-I) from the drop down file menu.
   2. Look at the upper left-hand corner of your screen, there is an Apple menu where you can select Software Update to run all Apple Software updates.
   3. After the updates have been run, reboot your Macintosh computer.
   4. Afterwards, open Applications Folder, find and open Utilities Folder and then select Boot Camp Assistant.
   5. Double click Boot Camp Assistant to run it. You will then follow the specific instruction that will pop up to help set up the software. In the first window you will be prompted to select Continue. In the second window, you will be prompted to choose how much of your hard drive you will use to store the installation of any windows operating system. Afterwards select Continue. In the third window, select Start Installation to begin running windows. Insert the windows media (CD) to begin running the windows operating system.
   6. After the particular windows operating system has been installed, reboot your Mac computer/laptop. Afterwards, put in OS X Leopard DVD. This DVD will run additional software and drivers that Boot Camp needs. After that is done, start the software update (like what was done in step 1) so that your copy of Boot Camp is updated.
   7. Finally, in order for you to launch the particular windows operating system that you have installed, restart your Mac computer. Press the Option Key. This will give you the choice of which operating system you would like to boot from. It maybe from Mac operating system or windows. Afterwards, install the variety of windows updates and security areas. You will do this by turning on Automatic Updates under Start Menu or Control Panels or Systems or Automatic Updates.
   8. Windows will now be running like a Windows PC (personal computer).


Tips and Warning


    * Do not think that your Macintosh computer will be immune to viruses when you use Boot Camp. It will go through the same risk of contracting a virus like any other personal computer
    * You should upgrade your RAM in order for your system to run efficiently as well as speedily. Ensure that you install anti-virus software on your Windows system.
    * You will have to reboot every time that you want to switch platform between your windows operating system and Macintosh system.
    * When you decide to store a windows operating system on your hard drive, you can share the space between your Mac system and the windows partition. You will have the choice of storing the windows system in a 5 GB space or a 32 GB space.
    * When you launch Boot Camp, the kind of windows operating system will prompt you to do different things. You may be prompted to choose the partition on which you want to install windows. You must choose that you are installing on Boot Camp.
