Connect Two Monitor
One monitor may be enough for most computer users. There are however, some instances where using two monitors is not only practical but essential. If you have a Mac or Windows Operating System you can readily install two monitors to one CPU. Once you have an appropriate video card you can easily connect the two. If your computer does not have a video card then installing this hardware will be the only way to create the dual connection.
Required Tools
* Two Monitors
* One Computer
* An Appropriate Video Card
Instructions
The steps you take to connect the two monitors will depend on your current CPU. If, as stated before, there is no video card on your system or it has one that is inadequate then you will have to start the process by installing a new card or make alternative adjustments. Once all the basic hardware is in place then you can create the connection for both monitors.
1. Begin by assessing your computer's potential. If you need to install a new video card do so by following the instructions that came with it. If you do not wish to change out your card there is the possibility of using a monitor switch box to make the connection. You may use a video card that allows the addition of a second card or you may use a video card that comes equipped with support for dual monitors.
2. After you have installed the video card configure the preferences section then reboot your computer so that all changes will come in effect. Check to see that the preferences you have selected have been updated.
3. Now you are ready to create the dual connection.
4. Connect both monitors to the two available ports. Be careful not to push either monitor's connection cable into the designated slot with extreme force this can damage the monitor and the CPU.
5. Once more restart your computer so that it will access both monitors.
6. Next you will need to configure the monitors to derive a suitable display.
7. Go to the Start menu click on Control Panel and then select the Display icon.
8. Go to the Display Properties window and choose Settings.
9. If you would like the monitors to output one uniform display then select the [Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor] option.
10. You will likely have to rearrange your desktop icons to fit this new adjustment. You can achieve this by dragging and dropping the icons in the desired areas.
11. Once you have completed setting up the dual monitor click Apply and allow Windows to activate this new setting. Windows will make certain automatic changes so that the workspace corresponds with the overall resolution of the computer's display.
Tips and Warning
* You can create a dual monitor set-up that either allows you to display the same information on both screens or in the way described here: using two monitors to create one large display. To create the first type of display you will need to obtain a video port adapter to split the two signals.
