Removes programs From Start up
There are some programs on your computer that start running once the operating system has completed loading; programs such as Lime-Wire or uTorrent are set to run at startup by default. However, such programs slow down the startup process and there may also be other programs that run at startup belonging to malicious applications and removing them would be best for the overall health of your PC or laptop. So let’s look at how you can remove those programs from your startup.
REQUIRED TOOLS
* PC or laptop
REQUIRED MATERIALS
* Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 operating system
* Cleanup program
INSTRUCTIONS
1. If you opt to use third-party programs to remove or disable startup items you can download a program such as C CLEANER WINDOWS START UP INVESTIGATOR, or STARTER. Once you have found and downloaded the program of your choic,e simply install it by double-clicking on it and following the instructions until the installation process is completed. For WINDOWS STARTUP INVESTIGATOR and STARTER, the items that start with your computer will be listed immediately but CCLEANER will require you to click on TOOLS and then STARTUP in order to disable or remove items from startup; each of the programs listed have the option to disable or remove the programs from startup and you could disable an item or a group of items before deciding to remove them completely.
2. If you decide not to use third party tools then there are only two other options left, which are both manual options using the Windows Registry or individually opening each program themselves. The safer option is to open the program which starts with the operating system and search the options for the setting which causes the application to start with Windows; once this option is found simply uncheck the option and the program should not start on the next reboot.
3. Your final option for removing a program from startup is by using the Windows registry. For all versions of Microsoft Windows between Windows 2000 to the latest version available you need to run the Windows Registry editor by going to the Start Menu and clicking on RUN; for later versions of Windows including Vista and 7 you need to click on the Start Menu, then type the word RUN and click on the RUN icon or hit enter on the keyboard. Once the RUN prompt is available, type REGEDIT and click on OK or press enter on the keyboard. Locate the part in the Windows Registry called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, then MICROSOFT, then WINDOWS. Once the Windows tree is opened, locate the RUN and RUNONCE branches to see the items that load at startup. From here you can remove any entry by right-clicking on it and then selecting DELETE from the list.
